h.323 is a  protocol that is used to establish, control, and breakdown multimedia sessions between two or more endpoints.  AltiWare versions 5.0A and earlier used h.323 as the control protocol for VoIP calls. Starting with the release of AltiWare 5.1 in 2007, the primary protocol used for VoIP call control became SIP.  h.323 tie trunk capability was left in the system to provide backwards compatibility between 5.1 and 5.0A servers.  Support for 5.0A ended in 2009, and with that support for h.323 tie trunks also ended, however as a courtesy, the h.323 trunks still remain in the system.

Currently h.323 support is depracated in MaxCS.
